NORTH NEWTON V STOGUMBER

Any hopes Stogumber had of promotion from Division Two of the Shrubbery Somerset League were virtually blown away by a below par batting performance on Saturday.
Only a remarkable run of poor results from the teams above them in the next three weeks will allow Stogumber a return to Division One from where they were so unluckily relegated last season.
Requiring just 147 for victory, albeit on a wicket which helped the bowlers throughout, they crashed to 75 all out, with only youngster Andy Godfrey showing any resilience. Godfrey scored a determined 24, but only two other players, James Weetch (11) and Brian Penny (10) managed to reach double figures. The combination of A. and J. White brought about their downfall: they took 5 – 20 and 4 – 10 respectively.
Robbie Rexworthy was the star of Stogumber’s bowling attack on a wicket that batsmen found difficult throughout. He took 5 – 29 in 12 overs as the home side collapsed from 61 – 3 to 146 all out. Although failing to take a wicket, Rexworthy was given good support from Brian Penny, whose 12 overs cost just 19 runs.
